GHANAIAN WOMEN IN PEACE AND SECURITY - THE ROLE OF POLITICAL WOMEN AS A TOOL FOR PEACE AND SECURITY

The year 2020 marks 20 years in enactment of UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security in Africa. The importance of this cannot be over emphasized. Ghana has since 1992 democratically gone to the polls to elect a successive government. One thing noticed is that every election period is characterized by one negative activity or the other be it hate speech, provocations and sometimes violence.

Therefore it will be incorrect on the part of stakeholders to assume that all will go well without a glitch. With this said, it is necessary to then draw the attention of one of the most vulnerable people in society who will be extremely troubled and affected if there be any breech in the peace of the country, this group are the WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

It has therefore become imperative to call on and educate the women and young people in active politics in Ghana; and cause them to realize what is at stake should the country result to violence and extremisms. Therefore, one of the best ways is to build their capacity and awareness to this cause.
